Floating Festival

So after attending a lot of riverfront/costal festivals this summer, I have come to wonder why no one has started a floating festival. In the heat of the summer, water often appears much more desirable than standing in the blazing sun surrounded by hundreds of other smelly, sweaty, disgruntled fans. If a band could play on a barge attendees could float on rafts, dance on docks, be on jet skies, tread water, laze on an inner tube, dine on yachts, or anything else their hearts desired.

Another great thing is that water is a teriffic sound conductor, thus sound can travel for vast distances before dying out.  I am not an expert, but I think this could really enhance the concert experience.

Flaming Lips was Sensational

So, I just got back from the 10,000 lakes festival and I have to say the flaming lips concert was probably the best musical experience I have ever encountered. Actually, definitely the best. Equivalent to pure euphoria, in fact. Not only was the music even more powerful live due to the quality of the surround sound, but the lights, confetti, dancing teletubbies, media images, people in bubbles, and nudity also emphasized the profundity of the lyrics and enhanced the overall viewing experience. Normally, I feel like only bad pop stars with excess funds have to use special effects to cover up the fact that their music sucks, but in the case of the flaming lips the music was amazing in addition to the show being incredibly visually stimulating. This created a multifaceted and outstanding performance.  I highly recommend rushing out to see them the next time they play in the states, which won’t be for a while, but it is definitely worth the wait. In the meantime you should see their new movie: Christmas on mars.
